Bitcoin Tops $82,000 Amid Reports of Trilateral Summit Proposal on Ukraine

Bitcoin briefly surpassed $82,000 to touch an intraday high of $82,183.56 before easing to around $81,505.79 on Oct. 18. The price move followed reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a three-way summit with U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping during the APEC Leaders' Meeting on Nov. 18-19 in Shenzhen, China, to discuss the Ukraine war. The proposal reportedly stems from an Oct. 9 call between Trump and Putin, which also yielded agreements on Russian diesel purchases and a pause on scheduled U.S. sanctions.
