Bitcoin Reaches Final 80,000 Blocks Ahead of Scheduled 2028 Halving Event

The Bitcoin network has crossed into the final 80,000 blocks preceding its next programmatic halving. On October 5, the network reached block 970,026, leaving 79,974 blocks before the halving event set for block 1,050,000, projected to occur in 2028. Occurring every 210,000 blocks, the upcoming halving will reduce miner block rewards from 3.125 BTC to 1.5625 BTC. Assuming the standard production pace of roughly 144 blocks daily, new issuance will drop from 450 BTC to 225 BTC per day, tightening supply.
