Bitcoin Knots is trying to fork Bitcoin again after its last chain died in two blocks

Bitcoin Knots is preparing a second breakaway-chain fork attempt following the failure of its previous BIP-110 chain, which stalled after producing only two blocks. Bitcoin developer Luke Dashjr announced that an upcoming rehearsal will transition the proposed network from Bitcoin's SHA-256d proof of work to BLAKE2b. The transition aims to eliminate reliance on existing Bitcoin SHA-256 miners by tapping hardware originally engineered for Sia mining, such as Bitmain Antminer A3 and Goldshell SC5 units. However, the initiative faces major technical and economic obstacles ahead of mainnet activation. Crucial consensus parameters remain unresolved, including discrepancies in temporary block-weight limits between 700,000 and 800,000 units. Furthermore, estimated testnet mining capacity of 50 to 70 TH/s falls far short of the projected 870 TH/s needed to sustain 10-minute block times under initial difficulty models. With no public commitments from major exchanges, custodians, or light-wallet infrastructure providers, the proposed chain faces severe replay risks and liquidity hurdles despite the introduction of opt-in SIGHASH_UNIFIED signing modes.
