Bitcoin Futures Open Interest Plunges by 49,000 BTC in Largest Drop Since October 2025
Bitcoin derivatives markets underwent an orderly deleveraging, with open interest across CME and perpetual futures sliding by roughly 49,000 BTC over seven days. Total Bitcoin futures open interest stands at about $52.89 billion, while Bitcoin trades near $84,070. The contraction, the largest weekly decline since October 2025, was propelled by voluntary profit-taking, declining funding rates, and the mechanical expiry of CME's September contract on September 25. Liquidations remained muted at $67.6 million over 24 hours against $56.25 billion in trading volume, pointing to an orderly reduction in speculative leverage.
