Bitcoin Enters Pensions: Millions Of Colombian Workers To Get Access
Porvenir, Colombia’s largest pension fund administrator, quietly launched a Bitcoin investment product in April 2026 that gives voluntary pension-account holders low-cost exposure to Bitcoin by routing money into BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT). The product accepts COP100,000 (≈$25) minimums, targets younger workers, and requires a risk assessment before enrollment. Protección and Skandia have rolled out similar offerings. Because Porvenir manages roughly 25% of Colombia’s pension assets and the system covers about 60% of workers, the move could materially broaden retail and institutional demand for BTC-priced products and increase flows into IBIT, boosting Bitcoin adoption in a regulated, custody-backed wrapper — while leaving investors exposed to Bitcoin’s price volatility.
