Binance Denies Fresh WSJ Report Alleging $850M Iran Transactions

On May 23 Binance CEO Richard Teng rejected a new Wall Street Journal report claiming $850 million in Iran-linked flows moved through the exchange, calling the coverage fundamentally inaccurate. The latest allegations detail $107 million from Iran’s central bank in 2025 and roughly $260 million routed to Iranian financiers in 2024-25, reviving scrutiny despite Binance’s prior $4.3 billion settlement. Teng reiterated that flagged activity predated sanctions, that Binance had already investigated, and that sanctions exposure had dropped 96.8 percent since 2024 while the exchange cooperates with law enforcement. The dispute, now in active litigation, continues to pressure crypto sentiment and BTCUSD volatility.
