Base Withdrawals Stall 36 Hours After Azul TEE Bug

On 3 June reports confirmed Base’s Ethereum withdrawals remained stalled for ~36 hours following a Trusted Execution Environment failure in its new proving stack. The outage began 29 May 15:55 UTC, one day after the 28 May Azul upgrade that aimed to shorten the withdrawal window from seven days to roughly six hours. Block production and user activity on Base continued uninterrupted, and no funds were lost thanks to the existing challenge period. The incident exposed a single point of failure in the settlement pipeline and has prompted calls for a detailed post-mortem on the dual TEE-ZK design.
