Barring a U.S. recession, tech should outperform the S&P 500 again: Paul Meeks

Paul Meeks, head of technology research at Freedom Capital Markets, told CNBC that despite near-term concerns Meta (META.OQ) could be a contrarian buying opportunity because of its strong user-monetization ability. He expects major AI/private tech names — OpenAI, Anthropic and SpaceX — to go public by end-2026, but warned investor appetite may not absorb all three blockbuster IPOs. Meeks also said that, barring a U.S. recession, the tech sector should again outperform the S&P 500. The comments imply a constructive outlook for large-cap tech stocks (including META.OQ) and suggest potential indices and sector-relative flows if IPOs and AI monetization play out as expected.
