Azerbaijan Moves Into Uzbekistan’s Fast-Growing Mining Sector
Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan signed a set of agreements to deepen cooperation in mining, banking and tourism, with the most market-relevant piece being joint development of Uzbek gold and other mineral deposits. Azerbaijan’s state-owned AzerGold will help develop the gold asset and support processing and marketing, while NEQSOL Holding will take part in critical mineral exploration and development. The deal suggests Uzbekistan is seeking foreign expertise and investment to accelerate its mining sector and build out more of the value chain. Although no financial terms were disclosed, the agreement points to longer-term support for Uzbek resource development and regional industrial collaboration. The article is more of a strategic geopolitical and industrial partnership story than a direct price-moving catalyst, but it is constructive for sentiment around gold and critical minerals development in Central Asia.
