Asian FX Finds Relief as Oil Prices and US Yields Ease: OCBC
Asian currencies saw a short-lived relief as declines in crude oil prices and a retreat in US Treasury yields eased external pressures on regional FX, OCBC analysts said. The easing reduced import-cost stress for oil-dependent economies and allowed some Asian central banks to pause aggressive interventions, helping the Korean won, Thai baht and Indonesian rupiah to recover in the session. OCBC warned the relief could be temporary because supply constraints, geopolitical risks and US rate-path uncertainty remain. The bank advised investors to treat any FX strengthening as a tactical hedging opportunity rather than a signal of sustained appreciation, noting volatility is likely to stay elevated as oil and Fed-rate expectations evolve.
