Apple Asian supplier shares mixed on CEO succession plans

Apple’s announcement that Tim Cook will step down as CEO and hand over the role to John Ternus (effective Sept. 1) produced mixed market reactions across its Asian supply chain. Apple shares slipped slightly in after-hours trade, while Hong Kong- and China-listed suppliers such as AAC, Lens Technology, Luxshare and Goertek fell about 1%–2.5%. By contrast, major regional suppliers including TSMC and Hon Hai rallied (TSMC +2.2%, Hon Hai +1.9%), and parts suppliers in Japan and Korea (Murata, Samsung Electronics, LG Innotek) gained between about 1.6% and 3.5%. The article highlights investor uncertainty for China-based manufacturers given Ternus’s product/hardware focus and Apple’s ongoing shift of production outside China, plus the company’s $600 billion U.S. operations pledge — all factors that could reshape supplier demand and regional supply-chain allocation.
