Anthropic Seeks Google Backing for 1 GW Data-Center Expansion

Anthropic is now pursuing more than a dozen U.S. data-center leases totaling over 1 GW and seeking Google financial guarantees to backstop payments. The move caps a three-week surge in Google Cloud partnerships that began May 20 with sovereign-cloud wins in Bulgaria and Germany. Subsequent deals with FintechOS, Amdocs, Webedia, Lovable (5x usage), EQT’s 300+ portfolio firms, Hitachi and Blackstone’s $5 billion TPU joint venture reinforced 63 % YoY Q1 growth and the $180–190 billion 2026 capex program.
