Anchorage Digital launched Multilateral Settlement Coordination (CMS), an institutional trading platform that removes the need to pre-fund exchange accounts by keeping custody and settlement with Anchorage while partner venues handle execution. By isolating custody from trade matching and addressing a major counterparty risk highlighted by past exchange failures, CMS could lower operational and legal barriers for pension funds, endowments and other institutional investors to enter crypto markets. Wider adoption of this model may lift institutional demand for Bitcoin, increase custody flows to regulated providers, and alter exchange liquidity dynamics as venues integrate custody-light execution.
