Amazon’s unable to restore access to AWS facility in Bahrain damaged by war

Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced that it is unable to restore access to its primary cloud-computing facility in Bahrain, as well as one of its three data hosting zones in the United Arab Emirates, following infrastructure damage sustained during the Iran war conflict. The disruption represents a significant operational challenge for Amazon's cloud business in the Middle East region. According to an official status update released by AWS, the physical damage spanned multiple availability zones—clusters of data centers within a geographic area—exceeding the built-in redundancy and failover capacity that its regional architecture is engineered to withstand. The company confirmed it is actively assisting impacted Bahrain clients in migrating and re-establishing their operations across other operational cloud regions. The incident highlights increasing geopolitical risks to mission-critical technology and cloud infrastructure located in volatile regions. Shares of Amazon (AMZN) traded lower following broader market weakness and the operational outage.
