Amazon increases Louisiana data center investment to $18 billion

Amazon is expanding its planned data-center buildout in northwest Louisiana to $18 billion from $12 billion, adding a third campus in Shreveport. The project spans Caddo and Bossier Parishes and is expected to create up to 750 full-time data-center jobs, 2,500 broader community jobs, and as many as 2,250 construction jobs. Amazon said it will pay 100% of the infrastructure costs for power and water upgrades, limiting costs to local ratepayers. The company also plans up to $400 million in public water infrastructure investment and has already backed solar projects that added up to 200 MW of carbon-free energy to Louisiana’s grid. The news is incrementally positive for Amazon’s long-term cloud and AI infrastructure capacity, though it carries heavy capital spending with limited near-term earnings impact.
