Amazon adds cybersecurity veteran Kevin Mandia to board 2 years after he left Google

Amazon has appointed cybersecurity veteran Kevin Mandia to its board of directors, strengthening the technology giant's governance and oversight in enterprise security and artificial intelligence vulnerabilities. Mandia is the founder and former chief executive officer of Mandiant, which was acquired by Google for $5.4 billion in 2022. Following his departure from Google in 2024, Mandia launched Armadin, an artificial intelligence-focused network vulnerability startup, and co-founded venture capital firm Ballistic Ventures. The strategic appointment comes at a time when major technology enterprises face growing security risks linked to advanced AI models and autonomous agents. Amazon highlighted Mandia's extensive background in public and private sector cyber defense to assist the board in navigating modern technological challenges. According to a regulatory filing, Mandia was awarded 4,086 shares of common stock, valued at approximately $1 million, which will vest in three equal annual installments beginning November 2027.
