Alphabet Commits $50M to Train 300,000 Trades Workers for AI Buildout

As of June 14, Alphabet reaffirmed its $50 million Google.org pledge to train more than 300,000 Americans in skilled trades across 20+ states. The program, supporting 14 unions and four associations, targets electricians, welders and pipefitters needed for data-center construction. The initiative follows Meta’s $115 million workforce push and builds on over $1 billion in Alphabet training commitments since 2022. Coverage began June 11 highlighting acute labor shortages, with 349,000 new construction workers required this year and 176 data-center permits issued in 2025. Shares of GOOG rose modestly on the strategic announcement.
