After accusations of selling ‘perv glasses,' Meta prepares to sell a pair without a camera

Meta Platforms Inc. is reportedly preparing to launch a new version of its smart glasses without built-in cameras, code-named Luna. The strategic move aims to address mounting consumer privacy concerns and backlash over surveillance issues associated with its current camera-equipped hardware. Despite camera-based smart glasses achieving relative commercial traction, public criticism regarding privacy risks has persisted. According to reports, the upcoming Luna model will feature six built-in microphones and a dedicated activation button designed specifically for interacting with Meta's AI chatbot and consumer assistant, Muse. Removing the optical sensors offers a camera-free alternative focused purely on audio and voice-assisted AI utility. The device is expected to be unveiled at the upcoming annual Meta Connect developer event in Menlo Park. The development comes as Meta's Reality Labs division continues to post substantial financial operating losses, underscoring the tech giant's persistent efforts to build a broader consumer hardware base and drive AI adoption across mainstream wearables.
