Amazon Partners with AEP and X-energy on 960 MW Indiana Nuclear Project

Amazon has entered a joint development agreement with American Electric Power and X-energy to evaluate constructing a 960-megawatt advanced nuclear facility in Sullivan County, Indiana. The proposed project would deploy 12 of X-energy's 80-megawatt Xe-100 small modular reactors at the retired Breed Generating Station coal site, with AEP slated as the operator. Under the deal, Amazon will provide development funding and buy the electricity under a long-term contract to power its cloud and AI infrastructure. The agreement marks the second commercial deployment under Amazon and X-energy's plan to add over 5 gigawatts of U.S. nuclear capacity by 2039.
