9/11 Victims Seek $671M Share of 127,271 Seized Bitcoin Held by US

A group of 95 September 11 victims and family members, known as the Chairnoff Claimants, has filed a legal notice seeking rights to approximately 127,271 Bitcoin held in U.S. government custody. The claimants hold outstanding court judgments against Iran exceeding $671 million and argue that mining pool LuBian acted as an Iranian state instrumentality under the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act. The U.S. government originally filed a civil forfeiture complaint in October 2025 alleging links to wire fraud and money laundering. Multiple parties are contesting ownership, and no distribution rights have been granted.
